| Planning and Preparation — Come and learn everything you need to know to confidently plan and prepare to create, restore, or enhance your youth garden program. Topics include: program options, building support and obtaining buy-off, developing a clear roadmap and action plan, key considerations in designing and building your garden, training your volunteers, construction and initial planting, preparing your soil-beds and walkways, irrigation, critter proofing, maintenance requirements, and much more. | Garden Basics — This workshop is a crash course on everything you need to know to be prepared, successful, and comfortable with your gardening knowledge base. Whatever your current level is, come and expand it by learning more about: plant groupings and classifications, parts of a plant, propagation methods, zones and growing seasons, soil composition and attributes, garden pests, irrigation and water management, composting basics, garden maintenance, good garden hygiene, and more. By the end of the session you will have the information and skill set needed to successfully plant, harvest, troubleshoot, and maintain your youth garden. | Getting Ready For Next Year — Don’t let next September catch you unprepared. Come and learn everything you need to know to get your youth garden ready for another successful year. Come collaborate and learn from other youth garden coordinators and volunteers about what works and what doesn’t, how to anticipate and overcome common challenges, what resources are necessary to achieve this year’s goals, how to secure resource and funding, and what to do to make sure you sustain the excitement, momentum and support for your program. |
